Frequently Asked Questions - Dolphin Bay

What's the weather like?
The daytime temperatures in Dolphin Bay are rarely below 30°C, with November to January being the cooler season and March to May the hottest (32 to 38°C - but feeling as if in the 40's).  However, being beside the beach means that there is often a cooling breeze. The rainy season is from June to October.  The normal pattern for rainfall is occasional heavy showers rather than persistent rain lasting for days. At night temperatures may drop as low as 25°C (even 20°C in the winter), but it is often more than this.

What do you charge?
As a foundation, we do not charge commercial rates. We have two levels of suggested donations: "missionary" for workers on personal support, and "standard" for those receiving a salary or pension. We have a separate rate for conferences.
We rely on donations from guests to cover: staff wages, the daily running costs and on-going maintenance. Once you have completed a booking enquiry request (with number of adults, children's ages, and the expected length of stay), we will provide you with a suggested donation estimate and only ask for confirmation of your booking once you know the costs involved.
How can I pay for my stay?
We accept cash donations in Thai Baht. There is an ATM machine about 1 km away along the beach.
Also, you may pay by bank transfer from a Thai bank account, or use Wise from a foreign bank account. We cannot accept debit or credit cards; nor can we accept cash in foreign currencies.
Do I need a visa to enter Thailand?
Due to COVID-19 requirements, on arrival in Thailand you will have to provide:
  • a Thailand Pass (obtained through your local Thai Embassy/Consulate)
  • a negative PCR COVID-19 test (done within 72 hours of departure),
  • US$50,000 COVID-19 health insurance cover
These requirements may change as a vaccine becomes widely available. Please see our International Travel page.

In Pre-Covid times tourists from many countries (but see see
www.immigration.go.th for more information) received a 30-day visa when arriving by air, or a 15-day visa when arriving by land. However, some of these 'visa on arrival' options were withdrawn in March 2020. Be sure to check the current status.
If you are planning to be in the country longer, it is worth contacting your local Thai Embassy/Consulate to obtain a longer visa before you arrive.

If you require a letter to confirm your booking with JTDB please let us know as soon after your booking as possible.
Do you accept groups and conferences?
Our primary purpose is to offer a place of rest/relaxation/retreat for individuals and families. Normally we like to keep at least one family room free in case needed in an emergency.

However, we do welcome groups.
  • We have 38 bedrooms (all but two for more than one person), so we can accommodate a group of up to about 50 adults, if some are couples or willing to share a room with separate beds.
  • If the group includes a number of children, then a group of 60 or 70 is possible.
  • In a few cases we may allow a group to occupy the whole site.
  • All the above guest numbers are subject to the current Thai Covid-19 restrictions.
We have a large meeting room on the second floor with lift/elevator access. Groups/conferences may book up to one year in advance. Please click here for our groups page.
May I bring my well-behaved dog?
Out of courtesy to other guests we do not accept pets - even well-behaved ones!
